Each country has its own unique drinks. I think the choice of beverage reflects the character of that country. Do you think the drinks are determined by the geography of the country? There is a wide variety of traditional drinks in Turkey. Let’s get to know these drinks. Maybe one day you will pass by and you would like to taste it.

Tea is one of the indispensable drinks for Turks. We can drink tea any time of the day. We always drink tea as soon as we get up in the morning, before dinner, after dinner, while chatting, in meetings, between classes, watching movies…  We sometimes drink our tea with sugar, sometimes without sugar, but we never drink it with milk. We will have some snacks next to the tea. Cookies, cake or a slice of delicious pistachio baklava. It is much more delicious when compared to tea anywhere in the world. It should be drunk especially in a thin glass. In Turkey we say “ ince belli bardak “.

Another beverage we drink is Turkish coffee. There is a cooking method unique to Turks. Add 2 teaspoons of Turkish Coffee to the coffee pot for each cup and as much sugar as you want. Then add 1 Turkish coffee cup for each cup of cold drinking water. Mix the coffee (and the sugar if you have added it) with water so that it is thoroughly wetted and dissolved. We do not boil the coffee. While heating you can see foam on the top. Divide the foam into the cups in equal amounts. After taking the foam , boil the remaining coffee in the coffee pot once more and then distribute it to the cups. Coffee with a lot of foam is the best Turkish coffee, and in my opinion, unsweetened coffee is the most delicious coffee.

And some of the coffee grounds remain in the cup after drinking, and some people look at it and draw some shapes, and this is called coffee fortune telling. In fact, coffee fortune telling is used to add more joy to pleasant conversations. When the coffee in the cup is finished, the cup is turned upside down and waits for a while. Then it opens and the figures inside are commented on and the conversation continues. Some people say they really see things from shapes, they even say something about the future. It’s nice to listen to, but you shouldn’t believe too much, right?

Coffee with a lot of foam is the best Turkish coffee

Ayran is a kind of beverage that Turks cannot give up. It is a perfect summer drink. It is delicious when it is filled with ice and salt. It goes very well with kebabs and doner kebabs. Making buttermilk is really easy. First you need a nice Turkish yogurt. Then cold water and some salt. The amount of salt varies from person to person. Put all the ingredients in a jug and beat with the help of a mixer until foamy. It’s really delicious. It is also a very healthy drink. We can drink in all seasons but in summers it is refreshing drink.

BOZA

Boza is a traditional Turkish beverage that can be prepared with corn or bulgur. Boza, unlike any other beverage, dates back to 8-9 thousand years ago, in Mesopotamia. It is mostly consumed with cinnamon and yellow chickpeas. Boza, which is rich in B group vitamins, also contributes to strengthening the body’s immune system. You can buy it from the markets and drink it at home, and you can buy it at the boza seller, who shouts boza on the street on cold winter nights. The taste is slightly sour. Like yogurt, it is fermented with beneficial bacteria.

RAKI

The most favorite drink of the Turks is Rakı It is the traditional alcoholic beverage of the Turks. It is usually anise flavored. It is consumed with ice. The best part of raki is the accompanying food and appetizers. You should definitely have white cheese like feta, melon and a nice salad on your table. Imagine conversation with friends at a beautiful table, accompanied by raki. We Turks say that it cannot be explained, it can be lived. ( Anlatılmaz yaşanır ) If you are here one day, you should definitely try the raki with fish table. Raki goes well with the best seafood
