Cappadocia
An incredible natural wonderDerya Taş

There are hundreds of places to visit and see in Turkey. Every region, every corner is beautiful, but there is a place among them, where you feel yourself on another planet. An incredible natural wonder. A place that has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List since 1985. It is a very characteristic region

There are hundreds of places to visit and see in Turkey. Every region, every corner is beautiful, but there is a place among them, where you feel yourself on another planet. An incredible natural wonder. A place that has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List since 1985. It is a very characteristic region that was shaped by the erosion of the ash and soft layer of the volcanic land, about 60 million years ago, by wind and rain waters over millions of years. The shapes formed are so magical that people named these shapes as fairy chimneys in Turkish we call them “ Peri Bacaları”. They lived in them for a while. Some of them were used as churches. But I think the most interesting ones are the underground cities. In fact, tunnels like tombs. It is so narrow that I was afraid to enter, but my daughter  could enter.  I think people connected these tunnels and fairy chimneys to protect themselves from the dangers

My daughter Bilge is braver than me to go in the underground city 🙂

In another activity you can experience in Cappadocia, Hot air balloons are flying  every morning at sunrise. It’s beautiful to watch. I was afraid to try. I guess I’m a little scared . Dozens of balloons take off in sequence. An actual  visual feast. It gets very hot in the summer. But actually, every season is beautiful. It’s a very romantic place. It’s like wearing a wedding dress under the snow in winter.
