HI there, I’m Nadine from Randburg in South Africa with a Trip from a Quiet Street in Randburg to a Usually Bustling Discovery Building in Sandton (City of Johannesburg).
Leaving home there isn’t a person or car in sight.
Walking onto one of the bigger roads, still very quiet.
Even the local petrol station and car wash shows very little activity.
Walking past a sports centre there is almost no one about and even the usually very busy Damelin College is closed.
Taking the Gautrain Bus from Randburg to Sandton you’ll see hardly anyone on the bus. There are signs on certain seats preventing people from sitting close together.
Out the window you can see some informal traders & a security guard all wearing the required masks.
Turning into Sandton Drive it is strange to see it so quiet when this is normally such a busy area.
Along the way signs can be seen promoting Covid-19 safety.
Arriving at the Discovery Building there is a sign showing that the building is closed to visitors.
Inside the building there are many safety warnings and preventative measures in place.
Looking down from one of the floors above, there isn’t a person to see below. This is normally a hive of activity.
The gym is on the top floor of the building and it is eerily quiet. The government has recently permitted gyms to open, however they must meet a number of criteria.
Overall lockdown has been intense in South Africa since it first started on 26 March 2020. The regulations are starting to ease however, caution still has to be practiced.
